Security Camera system install (CONDO COMPLEX)
Connect all the cameras and make sure all is working before mounting the cameras
Easier to connect all cameras to make sure:
All equipment works before mounting and installing it
Familiarize yourself with setting of the system
Moved the inside hardware from the main unit to the plastic enclosure
Before:
Opened up the main unit to see the hardware inside. Without moving the insides to the plastic enclosure there was no room for the power supply and cables.
After:
Plugged in the cameras and power to check if every thing is still working. I moved the “guts” of the system into a weatherproof enclosure because this main unit is intended for indoors and I would like to make it a outdoor unit.
Connected set up outdoors and test connection again
Make sure to apply waterproof caulking to the holes of the enclosure
Use a drill bit that can make holes in stucco. Your regular wood drill bit will not do
Test the connection by connecting one camera and connecting the enclosure/dvr to the internet via long ethernet cable
Placing the cameras
Take one long connection and find out where each camera is going to be placed. Then mount the cameras at the correct locations.
Wireless Internet Connection
By using an outdoor wireless bridge you do not need to hardwire to a specific units internet. Avoid drilling a hole into a unit. You can still use a board member’s internet but not be “married” to a unit. Sure the connection is slower but these pros outweigh the cons.
Sun rain shade for camera
If some of the cameras are not under a awning you might want to use of a shade / awning for your cameras.
Pvc and Wire Loom
Ethernet cables are pretty weak to the sun/rain/critters/ and when other repairmen are on the roof it is easy to trip on. Get outdoor wire loom that are colorful and same with the pvc.
